Wilma B. Prescott, 93, of Carlisle, PA, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Cumberland Crossings with her loving family by her side.
She was born on July 13, 1923 in Adelphia, NJ. Wilma attended Dickinson College where she played first violin with the orchestra and was elected Homecoming Queen. She graduated in 1945 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy. That same year, she married the love of her life, Dr. James Prescott III, whom was a decorated college athlete and dentist. They were married for 67 years. She bore a son, Steven, in 1947 and daughter, Lisa, in 1954. Wilma was a member of the Fortnightly Club, PEO, a Chi Omega Officer, and an Alter Guild Directress for 50 years under three rectors at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Carlisle. She was also a substitute teacher for the Carlisle Area School District as well as in Germantown Philadelphia. Wilma devoted her life to her family and church.
Wilma is survived by one son, Steve Prescott of Charleston, SC; one daughter, Lisa Prescott of Carlisle, PA; five grandchildren, Jason & Steven Prescott, James, Corrin, & Bennett Ward; one brother -in- law, Ernest Zeger of Carlisle, PA; one son- in- law, Richard Ward of Carlisle; six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, one brother and four sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at St. John’s Episcopal Church on the Square in Carlisle with Reverend Adam Kradel officiating. Interment will be in St. John’s Chapel of the Good Shepherd Columbarium. Visitation and fellowship will immediately follow in the church parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to The Salvation Army, 20 East Pomfret Street, Carlisle, PA 17013 or to St. John’s Episcopal Church, PO Box 612, Carlisle, PA 17013.
