William R. Bromley, Jr., age 94, of Mechanicsburg, PA died Friday, August 14, 2020 at his residence with his family by his side.
He was born September 11, 1925 in Harrisburg, PA to the late William R. and Rose J. Coulter Bromley, Sr. and was the widower to the late Genevieve Ritter Bromley.
Bill had a stellar career in the agricultural field. He first started out with the Quaker Oats Division of Feed and retired after 45 years with the Wenger Feed Company of Mt. Joy, PA.
He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in New Kingstown where he helped teach Sunday School. He was a graduate of John Harris High School and the Harrisburg Academy. Bill honorably served his country in the US Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. Throughout Bill’s life he had an avid interest in Civil War History. He was a former member and past president of the New Kingstown Vol. Fire Company where he helped with the Chicken Barbeque, Festivals and fund-raising activities. He was a former baseball coach with his son in the Silver Springs Youth Baseball League. Bill had participated in a week’s Fantasy Baseball camp in Winter Haven, Florida for the Boston Red Sox’s. Bill was very active in his younger years being a 55 year plus member of the Harrisburg YMCA. While a member at the “Y,” he was an active handball, racketball and squash player. He enjoyed tennis and hiking and the outdoors.
He is survived by his loving son, William R. “Bill” Bromley, III of Mechanicsburg, his daughter, Melanie J. Kullman of Hummelstown, two grandsons, Justin N. (Michelle) Kullman and Kristopher W. Kullman, and his two great grandchildren, Kamden and Kayleigh. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert W. Bromley and an infant sister.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 21, 2020 at 11:00 AM in the Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Rd. Carlisle with his pastor the Rev. Eric L. Funk Officiating. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 AM until time of services. Interment with Military Honors by the Cumberland County Honor Guard will take place in the Longsdorf Cemetery in New Kingstown, PA.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in William’s name be made to his church, Trinity United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 26 New Kingstown, PA 17072.
