William M. Sutton

May 14, 1938 — February 7, 2014

After a courageous 8 year battle with Cancer, Carlisle resident William M. Sutton passed away peacefully at Hershey Medical center, surrounded by his family and love. Bill was born on May 14th 1938 in White Plains, New York to the late John G. Sutton and Ruth M. Sutton and was preceded in death by his beloved brother and best friend, Jack Sutton. Bill graduated from Pleasantville High School, Pleasantville NY in 1956 where he excelled not only in academics but athletics as well. After graduation Bill attended Bethany College in Bethany West Virginia where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and a championship Diver. Bill graduated in 1961 with a Bachelors Degree majoring in Economics. Upon graduation Bill joined the United States Army and was stationed in Germany working in the Finance Corp. Following his discharge Bill moved to Manhattan and was employed by Westvaco as a Manager of Market Research in the International Sales division. Bill traveled extensively throughout Europe and always found a golf course along the way. Following Westvaco Bill was employed and eventually retired after 18 years of service from Ahlstrom, in Mount Holly, PA where he was a General Manager, Director of Sales and retired as Director of Human Resources.
Bill will always be remembered and missed by his cherished wife Linda to whom he was married for 43 years, his devoted children and son in law Sarah Sutton Eager, David Sutton, and Mark Eager, treasured grandchildren Matt and Marisa Eager all of Carlisle, as well as countless other friends and family who were blessed to know him.
When not enjoying time on the golf course or with friends and family Bill could often be found at his favorite coffee shop or at Bosler Memorial Library in downtown Carlisle. Bill was an avid reader who read 2-3 books a week for most of his life. Bill also loved to talk politics and sports or history. His frequent treks to his Stone Harbor, NJ bay house were a great source of tranquility to him. To the end Bill maintained his trademark sense of humor and touched the lives of many people with his acts of kindness. We will all miss Bill deeply but imagine he is somewhere enjoying those eternal sunsets on the bay he loved so.
Gatherings to celebrate Bill's life will be held in Carlisle PA and Stone Harbor NJ this May, his birth month.
