William “Bill” Durdan (78) passed away on Friday, October 5, 2018, at his residence. He was born in Massachusetts and relocated to Pennsylvania as a youth where his father was the Camp Director at Camp Conrad Weiser in Wernersville, Pennsylvania. It was there that he learned many life skills and enjoyed the camaraderie of his extended “camp” family that exists through today.
After graduating with a master’s degree in Forestry at Penn State, Bill joined the Peace Corps and spent time in Nepal. He retired as a project engineer in the wood products industry. In retirement, he enjoyed the outdoors and embarked on many excursions for travel, skiing, and family adventures. Bill was a private pilot and participated in the Civil Air Patrol for many years, mentoring hundreds along the way.
Having recently relocated to Carlisle, Bill attended the Carlisle Evangelical Free Church and enjoyed the communion of the men’s group. He enjoyed spending time with his family and maintaining friendships with people he met throughout his lifetime.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Jane (Brokenshire); daughter, Lisa; son, Michael and his wife, Carla; stepchildren, Jeremy and his wife Denise; Jamee and her husband Jon; brother, Jim and his wife Doris; sister, Peggy and her husband Julian; sister-in-law, Pat Pingel; and grandchildren: Jace, Jana, Jax, Will and Logan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merrill and Dorothy (Miller) Durdan and wife Anita (Pingel) Durdan.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, November 4th at 2 pm at the Bynden Wood Lodge South Mountain YMCA Camps. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the South Mountain YMCA, 201 Cushion Peak Road, Reinholds, PA 17569.
