William L. Wolfe, age 91, of Carlisle, passed away Sunday February 12, 2017 at his residence.
He was born August 10, 1925 in Carlisle to the late Raymond S. Sr. and Anna M. (Gelsinger) Wolfe and was the widower of Betty J. (Guthrie) Wolfe.
Bill retired from United Telephone Company of PA as a cable supervisor where his wife Betty served as Chief Operator. He honorably served his country in the Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict as a Seabee. He was a seasoned traveler and loved automobiles. Bill was a member of: American Legion Post #101; Elks Lodge #578; VFW Post #477; Telephone Pioneers of America; Independent Telephone Pioneers Association; Cumberland Star Lodge #197; St. John's Council #5; St. John's Chapter #171, where he was past Master; and St. John's Commandery #8, where he was past Master.
He is survived by: two nephews, Paul "Snook" Harris, Jr. of Idaho Falls, ID and Lester Johnston of Camp Hill; and his surrogate son, Donald (and wife Kathy) Kirk of Carlisle. In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Ida Harris.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA with Rev. James E. VanZandt officiating. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family at Westminster Cemetery. In following Bill's wishes, there will be no viewing.
In lieu of flowers, in memory of Bill, memorial contributions may be made to the charity on one's choice.
