William L. Martin, age 79, of Carlisle, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 17, 1936 in Teaneck, NJ to the late George L. and Muriel C. (Weaver) Martin.
During his 24 years of service, Bill served in Korea and Vietnam in the 1st Cavalry Division before retiring from the United States Army. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 826, the Carlisle VFW, Post 477, the Veterans of Vietnam War Post 26 and the National Woodcarvers Association. He enjoyed riding Harley Davidsons and was very talented wood carver. He worked very hard to become a 3rd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Erika B. Martin of Carlisle; three daughters, Lilian M. Byers of Dillsburg, Jean (and husband Mike) Calaman and Suzanne L. (and husband Joe) Railing of Carlisle; nine grandchildren, Tessa Shutt, Erika Dougherty, Rachel Byers, Michael Calaman II, Steven Dougherty, Brian Calaman, Heidi Railing, Matthew Byers and Anthony Byers; and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Donald Laton Martin.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA with Pastor Dale E. Barrick officiating. Interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. There will be a viewing from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
