W. Hall Barker, age 65 of Carlisle, PA, formally of Stroudsburg, PA, passed away at Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest Hospital on January 17, 2019. He was born on February 6, 1953 in Harrisburg, PA. He was the only son of the late William H. Barker and Goldie B. Barker of Steelton, PA.
Hall (as he was known by his family and friends) graduated from Steelton Highspire High School in 1970 and Lehigh University in 1974 with a BS degree in Business and Economics. While at Lehigh University, he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. After working for the Treasury Department as a federal bank examiner, he graduated from Shippensburg University with his MBA concentrating in finance in 1983. He was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma upon graduation from Shippensburg.
He was married to Denise M. (Knisely) Barker of Boiling Springs for 37 years. He is survived by his wife and 2 sons: Matthew E. Barker of Pittsburgh, PA, and Christopher D. Barker and his wife Betsy Barker of Richmond, VA; and their 2 sons, Grant and Owen.
Hall spent most of his professional career working in Finance and Accounting and the Banking industry. His passion was the credit union movement. He began his career at Member’s First Federal Credit Union when it was known as Defense Activities Federal Credit Union in Mechanicsburg, PA, now known as Member’s First. He went on to become CFO at Tri-co FCU in Randolph, NJ. He was instrumental in their merger with Visions FCU based in Endicott, NY from which he retired in 2018.
Hall was passionate about his family, his faith, and education and constant learning. He became a part-time adjunct professor at DeSales University in Allentown in their MBA program. He enjoyed volunteering his time to help those who needed guidance with math, computer skills, and technology. He headed the stewardship committee at his former church, Christ Hamilton United Lutheran Church in Stroudsburg, PA
Hall was a member of the Monosmith Isshinryu Karate Club of which he reached the rank of Black Belt many years ago. His passion for teaching began at the club. The many friendships he had were from his beloved club and his fraternity brothers and classmates from Lehigh University. He will be missed for his intelligence, his wit, his dedication to family and faith, and his warmth of personality.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 9, 2019, with Rev. Kevin Stout, officiating, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 111 Walnut Street, Boiling Springs, PA 17007. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions can be made to the St. Joseph’s Center, 2010 Adams Avenue, Scranton, PA 18509 or to the American Cancer Society, 125 Lucy Avenue, Hummelstown, PA 17036.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle, PA 17013.
