William H. Bixler, Sr

William H. Bixler, Sr., 90, of Carlisle, died Friday, November 22, 2013 at Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community, Carlisle.
He was born February 8, 1923, Boiling Springs, a son of the late Harry and Ethel (Brame) Bixler and the widower of Calantha Cornman Bixler, to whom he was married for fifty-nine years.
Bill was retired from the former AMP Incorporated. He enjoyed gardening, beekeeping and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the First Church of the Brethren, Carlisle as well as St. John's Lodge #260, Carlisle, where he was a Past Master. A US Army Air Force veteran of World War II, Bill served in the European Middle East and the China Burma India Theatres.
He is survived by one son, William H. Bixler, Jr. (and wife Nancy "Park") of Carlisle; two daughters Sally A. Bobb (and husband Jim) of Shippensburg, and Susan E. Cowley (and husband John F.) of Gilbert, SC; two sisters Jean P. Ilgenfritz of Carlisle and Joanne L. Kling (and husband Gary) of Enola. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Naomi F. Bobb, Aaron J. B. Bobb, Curtis W. Bixler and Anna C. Bixler. He was preceded in death by brothers Arthur C. Bixler and R. Edward Bixler, and sister Evelyn R. Stringfellow.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at First Church of the Brethren, 1340 Forge Road, Carlisle with Rev.'s James and Marla Abe officiating. Burial will be at Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle with Military honors conducted by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle.
