William Fred Tooland

William Fred Tooland, 91, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 16, 1927 in Glencoe to the late Admiral W. and Martha Lucinda (Funk) Tooland and was the widower of Myrtle C. (May) Tooland.
Fred was a member Trinity United Methodist Church, New Kingstown, American Legion post 109, Mechanicsburg and a lifetime member of VFW post 477, Carlisle. He retired from Roadway Express after 20 years of employment as a mechanic. Fred loved cars, especially his 1940 Chevrolet Coupe. He was a member of the Automotive Association of Hershey, VCCA Gettysburg Region and was a former member of the Chevrolet Club of California. Fred honorably served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by two children, Mark J. Tooland of Mechanicsburg and Lori D. Petroski of Dillsburg; two grandchildren, Skyler and Brant Petroski; and one sister, Floradean Tooland of Ohio. In addition to his parents and his wife, William was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Hazel and Bud Creamer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 19, 2018 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Eric Funk officiating. Interment will follow at Rolling Green Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle, PA and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the church.
