William F. Keifer

William "Bill" F. Keifer Jr., 60, of Carlisle died Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at his home following a battle with cancer.

Born Feb. 21, 1951, in Carlisle, he was a son of the late William Sr. and Sarah Foose Keifer.

He grew up at the top of Sterretts Gap. William was a 1969 graduate of Cumberland Valley High School. He was employed by Tyco Inc., formerly Amp Inc., for nearly 40 years and after retirement worked at the Harrisburg Auto auction, where he made lots of friends.

Some of his hobbies included hunting, being outdoors and doing things for his family, especially spending time with his three grandchildren. He liked to bake and share his treats with others. He also enjoyed visiting friends and helping people.

Bill was a jack of all trades who loved to do things himself.

Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Stephanie Keifer of Carlisle; two daughters, Julie Keifer (and fiancée, Tim Becraft) of Plainfield and Lorie Green (and husband, Brad) of Carlisle; one brother, Robert Keifer Sr. (and wife, Dianne) of Shermans Dale; one sister, Betty Mullen (and husband, Warren) of Shermans Dale; three grandchildren, Kaitlynne, Kelsey and Michael Green; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jeremy Keifer.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at Waggoners United Methodist Church, 1271 Longs Gap Road, Carlisle, with the Rev. Timothy A. Funk officiating. Burial will be private in Waggoners United Methodist Church Cemetery, Carlisle.

A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3211 N. Front St., Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
