William E. Manning, 85, of Carlisle PA passed away Tuesday Sept 6, 2022 at Penn State Holy Spirit Medical Center. Bill was born July 14, 1937 (Bastille Day) on a farm in Etters, PA. He was the son of the late John S. and Marion (Keefer) Manning. He was preceded in death by his brothers (who were fatally injured in an auto accident in 1959) John Samuel Manning, Jr. 22 and Robert Eugene Manning 17; a baby sister.
Bill retired as a Manager of the Medicare fraud division for Pennsylvania Blue Shield. In his younger days he worked for Joe the Motorists Friend, Hbg and was an MP in the Army as well as in the PA National Guard.
Bill is survived by the love of his life and wife of 32 years Vicki (Dimio) Manning whom he married in a fairytale wedding at Stokesay Castle, Reading PA on May 5, 1990; his son Robert E. Manning (Nicole), his daughters Julie A. Elicker (Steve) and Jaime L. Smoker (Chris); his grandchildren Robert E. II, William Patrick and Benjamin A. Bill is also survived by his step-mother Margarita Manning (El Paso, Texas) and his former spouse Elizabeth (Gray) Manning.
Bill just enjoyed life, especially his family and friends. His philosophy of life allowed him to leap over the many serious obstacles in his way. He never lost his sense of humor. His favorite sayings were "don't let the door hit you on your ass on the way out" and "you dropped something". Sometimes he could be gruff but his heart was pure gold.
Bill will be missed dearly. One cannot count the tears to be shed or his stories to be told. Zeus wants to thank you for your side of the bed; you know he loved you.
Hon, don't let the door hit you on your butt on the way into the Pearly Gates; or the alien planet/galaxies -you promised to let me know.
A special thank-you to all the doctors, nurses, Physician Assistant, , aides, therapists (Speech, Occupational, Physical and Respiratory), technicians and other staff, including culinary who took care of my beloved husband.
