William Dyre Bradford, IV, age 74, died on Saturday June 30 in Carlisle, PA. Born on June 11, 1944 to the late Natalie Hutton Bishop Bradford and William Dyre Bradford, “Bill” lived the majority of his life in Newark, Delaware. In 2015, he relocated to Carlisle to be closer to family.
Bill attended Mt. Pleasant High School and Wilmington High School, graduating in 1966. As a Vietnam Era Veteran, he could often be seen proudly wearing his army jacket. Following his time in the Army, Bill was employed by Chrysler Assembly Plant in Newark, retiring in 1990.
An avid American Postage Stamp collector, lover of fine scotch, old music and good dining, Bill also was passionate about white water rafting and his cat, Boris. A devoted bowler and golfer in his earlier years, he could often be found on the course at Delcastle Golf Club or at the Bowlerama in New Castle.
Bill was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Bradford McFarland. He is survived by his daughter, Tracie Bradford Martin and her husband Thomas; 3 granddaughters, Tera Moran, Emily Martin and Abigail Martin; and 3 great-grandchildren, Brady, Gannon and Mollie, a brother, Edward Green Bradford and his wife, Mary, and their children: Jason, Eddie and Amanda.
To celebrate Bill’s enthusiasm for white water rafting and his love of the New River, his ashes will be spread by his family in a private memorial.
In lieu of flowers, donations may made be made on Bill’s behalf to Alzheimer’s Association to fund research, Alzheimer’s Association National Headquarters, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
