Vivian A. Shuman, 87, of Walnut Bottom, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, at her home.

Born in Centerville, she was a daughter of the late Raymond Alfred and Ruth Emma Naugle Bender and the widow of Samuel F. Shuman.

She was a graduate of Shippensburg High School. Vivian was a member of Centerville Lutheran Church. She loved crossword puzzles.

Surviving are two children, son Randy S. Shuman (and wife, Jill) of Newville and daughter Lesa Jackson (and Terry Dick) of Walnut Bottom; one brother, Robert C. Bender (and wife, Barbara) of Shippensburg; three grandchildren, Tony Jackson, Lesli Shuman and Aaron Shuman; three great-grandchildren, Parker and Brooke Shuman and Declan Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Harry J. Bender.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Centerville Lutheran Church, Newville, with the Rev. Jerri Morton officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the church.

Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
