Vivian “Pete” Rice Englander passed away on April 27, 2018 at the age of 91.

Pete is survived by her daughters Karen Cook (husband Robert Cook) of Punta Gorda, FL, and Kimberly Seavers of Enola; her son, Britton Englander of Carlisle; as well as her granddaughter, Britney Wardecker of State College. She is preceded in death by her parents Gerald Rice and Marquerite Swartz Eshleman and her stepfather Samuel Eshleman.

Pete was born on August 4, 1926 in Carlisle. She graduated from Carlisle High School in 1944. She attended Hood College, Dickinson College, and the Pennsylvania School of Muscle Therapy where she graduated with a degree in Massage Therapy.

Pete took great pride in the town of Carlisle and was very active in her local community. She served as a past president of Chambersburg Area Hospital Auxiliary, which provided Chambersburg Hospital with support through volunteering and fundraising events. Further, she founded and organized the first “Follies,” a fund-raising project sponsored by the Carlisle Hospital. Pete was also a charter member of the former “Carlisle Players,” a group dedicated to presenting on-stage plays and encouraging future actors. She also belonged to the Carlisle YWCA, Mary Dickinson Club of Dickinson College, and St. John’s Episcopal Church.

A celebration of Pete’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 04, 2018 at Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA. with Rev. Barbara D. Albert officiating. A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Burial will be private and will take place at the discretion of the family.
