Violet F. Nickel, 91, of Newville, died Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Green Ridge Village, Newville.
Born December 12, 1919 in Perry County, she was a daughter of the late John and Margaret Brownawell Kitner and the widow of Levi Hummel and John T. Nickel.
She was a former longtime member of First Church of God, Carlisle. Violet was a member of the Doubling Gap Church of God, Newville, a member of the Big Spring Senior Center, Newville and a member of the Golden Ager’s Club.
Surviving are three sons: Donald Hummel (and wife, Margaret) of Carlisle, Barry Hummel (and wife, Mollie) of New Jersey and Kenneth Hummel (and wife, Carol) of Mechanicsburg, three daughters: Winifred Webber of Newville, Beverly Russell (and husband, Cyrus) of Mt. Holly Springs and Joan Stouffer (and husband, Paul) of Newville, one brother, Samuel Kitner of Marysville, two sisters: Elsie Adams of Mechanicsburg and Ruth Sipe of Carlisle, ten grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, numerous step-great grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Archie and Robert Kitner and three sisters: Annie Turner, Mabel Smee and Pauline George.
Memorial services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, January 14, 2011 at Doubling Gap Church of God, 50 McCrea Road, Newville, PA 17241, with Pastor Donald Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the church.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
