Victoria Whitcomb

Victoria A. Whitcomb passed to the loving care of her Lord on November 25, 2011 after a prolonged battle with lymphoma. She passed peacefully at the Hershey Medical Center with members of her family sharing her final moments.
Born June 23, 1951 in Carlisle, she was the daughter of Flordella (McDilda) Foote of Carlisle. Vicky lived for 60 years in the Boiling Springs area.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 42 years, Robert L. Whitcomb, her loving mother, Flordella (McDilda) Foote, and two daughters, Stacy M. Whitcomb, and Christina M. Iwanowicz along with her husband Joseph. Other surviving family members include a brother, James Foote and his wife Kathy, three sisters: Deena M. Engle and her life partner, Stephen Nedimyer, Pamela Laudermilch, and Beverly Cordier and her husband, Stephen, mother and father-in-law, Betty H. and Robert W. Whitcomb, her sister-in-law and husband, Kathy and Dennis Heckard, and two cherished grandchildren, Alina J. and Liam J. Iwanowicz along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by two step-fathers, John Day and James Foote.
Victoria was a 1969 graduate of Boiling Springs High School. Prior to graduating with a MS in Counseling from Shippensburg University, she enjoyed several years serving with the Capital Area Intermediate Unit (CAIU). Her professional career encompassed service at various counseling agencies, including the United Methodist Children's Home in Shiremanstown. She provided counseling services for Otterbein United Methodist church in the Carlisle area before establishing her own private play therapy partnership, Strickler and Whitcomb Mental Health Associates. She was a member of the PA Play Therapy Association, as well as numerous other professional and social organizations.
Vicky was an active lifetime member of Otterbein United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She also led Girl Scout troops in the Boiling Springs area for several years. Vicky was a member of the VFW Post #8851, Boiling Springs, where she served as president of the Ladies' Auxiliary.
Vicky's most cherished moments were times spent with her family, particularly with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, attending spiritual retreats, and time spent with special friends. Vicky always tried to give more of herself than she received from each person that she encountered.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle is in charge of the funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Vicky's name and memory can be made at any time and sent directly to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or to United Methodist Home for Children, 5120 Simpson Ferry Road, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17050.
