Verna I. George, age 91, of Carlisle, passed away Monday, June 25, 2018 at Geisinger Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill surrounded by her family.
Verna was born in Boiling Springs, PA on August 2, 1926 to the late Roy and Helen (Kuhn) Meals and was the widow of Dale George, Sr.
Verna worked at and retired from the Carlisle School District as a cafeteria worker. She was a member of the Carlisle First Church of the Brethren where she had served as a deacon and assisted in the kitchen. She was active in the band boosters when her children were growing up. She loved to cook and her legacy of baking fasnachts and Christmas cookies will live on with her family. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by a son, Dale (Patricia) George, Jr. of Carlisle; daughters, Pamela Youch of New Cumberland and Lisa (Raymond) Zalewski of Mt. Holly Springs; sister, Nancy Zeigler of Newville; grandchildren, Phillip (Sarah) George, Timothy (Samantha) George, Alysia (Ed) Griffith, Ryan and Austin Zalewski, Madison and Lily Youch; and great-grandchildren, Carter, Henry and Daniel. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers and sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at the Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA with Pastor Jim Abe officiating. Burial will follow in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
