Sydney R. Fisher, 80, of Carlisle died Friday, July 22, 2011 at his home.
Born January, 12, 1931 in McConnellsburg, he was a son of the late Fredrick S. and Hope Audrey Raker Fisher and the widower of Shirley Fisher.
He was a mechanic for Dauphin Oil, Carlisle during most of his working life. Syd really enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and metal detecting. He was a music lover who played guitar for the Keystoners. Sydney proudly served his country in the US Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of American Legion #101, Carlisle.
Surviving are one son, Seth Fisher (and wife, Loretta) of Newville, two daughters, Stefanie Smith (and husband, Clarence) of Enola and Julie Yardis of Carlisle, one brother, Winfield S. Fisher (and wife Jeanette Louise) of Branson, WV and one sister, Fredrica Laxson of McConnellsburg, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roger A. Fisher and Benjamin W. Fisher.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 28, 2011 Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle with Rev. Timothy D. Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post #101, 142 North Hanover Street, Carlisle, PA 17013.
