Susan Q. Rohrs, of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2024, at the age of 79.
Born on August 14, 1944, in Manhattan, New York, Susan was the daughter of the late Everett and Alberta (Mikitas) Quinn and the beloved wife of George L. Rohrs for 57 years. She and George grew up on the same street in Goldens Bridge, New York, and later married in December 1967. They raised their 3 children in New York until retirement, when they relocated and called Carlisle, PA home.
In addition to her husband, Susan is survived by her children: Amy Cohen (David) of New York, Matthew Rohrs of Carlisle, and Emily Martin (Daniel) of Virginia; grandchildren David Rohrs, Adam Martin, and Sophia Martin; sister Joyce Nichols (Daniel) of Maryland, and brother David Quinn (Leslie) of New York.
Susan graduated from John Jay High School in Cross River, New York in 1962. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina Greensboro in 1966, followed by a master’s degree from Western Connecticut State University. Susan was an Elementary School teacher for over 30 years before retiring, where she was loved by her students, the community, faculty, and administrators.
Susan was an avid NY Yankees fan, who also enjoyed: traveling and discovering new places, antique shopping (especially for ruby red glassware), games, movies, and reading with a hot cup of tea. Her love for her family was expressed in everything that Susan did. She was a kind and giving soul who created everlasting memories full of laughter and fun, especially when playing games at the kitchen table, during adventures with her grandchildren, and enjoying the holidays. Susan enjoyed and cherished times with her dear friends.
Her giving nature and service to others continued throughout her retirement, where Susan was very active in the Carlisle Area Neighbors and Newcomers Club. She took part in many campaigns to collect items for people in need to donate to local organizations. Susan also worked with the Salvation Army in the Senior Center and volunteered with Residential Hospice.
Services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
