Stephen David Williams, 68, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 14, 2023, at Howard County Hospital in Columbia, MD.
He was born March 7, 1955, in Carlisle PA to the late Edwin Eugene and Irene (Woerz) Williams.
A Carlisle High School graduate in 1973, he attended Penn State University and Harrisburg Area Community College to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice. During his career in law enforcement and security he worked as a police officer for Hampden Township, as an investigator and deputy sheriff for the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department and as head of security at Hershey’s Chocolate World.
He loved the outdoors and mountains of his home, but also the ocean. Sailing was his favorite pastime and he made numerous passages on the Intercoastal Waterway between Maryland and Florida. In the later years of his life he battled a Stage 4 Cancer diagnosis for over 12 years with his typical positive attitude and spirit.
Stephen is survived by his loving partner of 10 years, Marietta Lorenzo of Port Saint Lucie, FL; three children, Daniel (wife Kelsey) Williams of State College, Mary (husband Adam) Moyer of Florida, and Rebecca (husband Andrew) Illiano of Camp Hill; four grandchildren, Lucy, Wendy, Oliver, and Lilly; three step-grandchildren, Hazel, Nova, and Aimee; one sister, Melinda (husband David) Boomershine of Glenwood, MD; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Stephen was preceded in death by his brother, Larry E. Williams.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2023, at Mt. Zion Cemetery located at the intersection of Rt 74 and Rt 174, Boiling Springs, PA 17007.
Following in the footsteps of his parents, he cared very much for the less fortunate people with disabilities who are often forgotten and marginalized in our communities and volunteered in a group home for intellectually disabled adults. So in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in memory of Stephen to: The Arc Of Cumberland Valley, cparc.org.
