Shirley A. Szczypta

Shirley A. Szczypta, age 73, of Shippensburg, PA, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Chambersburg Hospital. She was born October 30, 1948, in Carlisle to Ruth (Cameron) Sheaffer of Carlisle and the late Ralph Sheaffer, Sr.
Shirley retired as the head baker from Green Ridge Village in Newville where she was loved by many of the residence and staff. Shirley loved flowers, gardening, fishing, playing bingo and baking cakes for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and any other special occasion. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years John A. Szczypta, Sr; son John A. Szczypta, Jr. and his wife Toni of Newville; daughter Tina M. Stayer and her husband Denny of Hubert, NC; grandchildren Pierson L. Szczypta, Huntier J. Szczypta and Kristina Stayer and great-granddaughter Hazel M. Szczypta. Shirley is also survived by her siblings: Bonita Matthews (Bonnie) and her husband Dennis of Carlisle, Lynda Reiber and her husband James of Carlisle, Elaine Penner of Carlisle, Wanda Stephens and her husband Aldo of Carlisle, Joyce Sheaffer of Carlisle, and Robert “Bob” Sheaffer and his wife Joyce of Gardners and numerous nephews and nieces. In addition to her late father, Shirley was preceded in death by her brother Ralph Sheaffer, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Rd., Carlisle, PA 17013. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 AM until service time. Interment will take place at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens.
