Scott M. Shank, 65, of Carlisle, died Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at his home.
Born October 23, 1949 in Carlisle, he was a son of George and Romayne Ilgenfritz Shank.
He was a Carlisle High School graduate, Class of 1967 where he participated in football, basketball, baseball and student council. He received a Football Scholarship to the University of Maryland where he earned his Bachelor's Degree and his Teaching Certificate. He worked as a teacher for both South Middleton and Carlisle School Districts for over thirty years, where he taught Health and Phys Ed. at the Elementary, Junior and Senior High School levels. He coached football, girls' basketball and track and field at both school districts. He also coached football at Dickinson College for over twenty-five years. He greatly enjoyed working at Camp Thompson as a counselor. Scott was named a Distinguished Alumni of Carlisle High School along with his brothers, Gary and Dennis and was inducted into the South Central Pa Sports Hall of Fame. As a teacher and a coach, Scott touched many lives in a lasting way, always with a smile. Family was a priority for Scott. He also loved the outdoors, reading, liked to cook, eat and drink wine.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Dolores "Deeg" Shank of Carlisle; two daughters, Erica Shank of Doylestown and Molly Knisely (husband, Josh) of Landisburg; three grandchildren: Dylan, Mickey, and Samantha; three brothers: Gary Shank (wife Pat), Dennis Shank (wife Sue) and Jeff Shank (wife Marcia), all of Carlisle; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. And his loving companions, Roxy and Sophie.
A Celebration of Scott's life will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015 from 4:00 until 8:00 pm at the Allison Hall Community Room at Dickinson College, 99 Mooreland Avenue, Carlisle, PA 17013.
