Sara K. Thumma

Sara K. Thumma, age 83, of Carlisle, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
She was born August 23, 1933 in Mt. Joy Township/Adams County to the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Strait) Downes.
Sara retired from the Claremont Nursing & Rehab Center, Carlisle as a nurse after 34 years of service. She was an active member of the First Church of the Brethren, Carlisle and enjoyed having fun, cooking, baking and giving to others. Sara was devoted to her family and friends and was always there for anyone in need. She had a kind heart and never met a stranger.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Elwood A. Thumma of Carlisle; one son, Elwood A. "Pete" (and wife Rebecca) Thumma II of Carlisle; two grandchildren, Tyler David (and wife Laura) Thumma of Mechanicsburg and Janelle Kathryn Thumma and fiancé Cory Myers of East Lansing, MI; two great-grandchildren, Landyn and Audrey; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Sara was preceded in death by her siblings, Carl, Smith, Frances and Flora.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, November 14, 2016 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA with Pastors Jim and Marla Abe officiating. Burial will follow at Westminster Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home.
