Sara Grossnickel Wilson passed away on Aug. 8, 2014 at the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, Palmyra, Pa. at the age of 89. She was born in Myersville, MD, and married David C. Wilson in 1953, who died in 2013.
Sara's final loving act in this life was to scatter the ashes of her beloved husband, David, with those of her daughter, Diane Wren, along the pristine, rocky Blueberry Trail near Archbald, Pa.
Her surviving children include: Dean (Wanda), Copley, OH; Donna (Rob) Stevens, Allentown, PA; and Doug (Bena), Pinckney, MI. Her grandchildren include: Todd Russ, Kyle Wilson, Daniel Stevens, Colin Wren, Andrew Wren and Abby Stevens. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Wade and Maudie Blickenstaff Grossnickel, three brothers, Cyrus, Clyde and Joe Grossnickel, and four sisters, Beulah Grossnickel, Mae Wolfe, Vada Bussard, and Edna Pryor. Her brother, Abe Grossnickel of Martinsburg, WV, survives her.
Sara lived life to serve others and the Church of the Brethren, where she was a life-long member. She was a member of the original Brethren Volunteer Services, serving in Chicago and Castener, Puerto Rico, where she worked as a registered nurse and met her husband. She expressed her devotion to God and the church through writing hymns, prose and verse; and loved attending and directing plays.
A celebration of Sara's life will be held on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2 p.m. at the Mechanicsburg Church of the Brethren, 301 Gale Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Heifer.org.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle, PA 17013.
