Samuel David Rice, 65, of Carlisle, died Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at his home.
Born April 16, 1946 in Paintsville, KY, he was the son of the late Samuel Marion and Jewell Long Rice.
He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Marshall University in Huntington, WV and he worked for the Brubaker Tool Company in its Quality Control Department, Millersburg, PA. Sam was known for his witty southernisms and dry sense of humor. He was a volunteer for the Gift of Life Program and Cairn Terrier Rescue Network. He was also an avid model railroader. For the past 16 wonderful years, Sam and Linda benefited from a Gift of Life from his liver donor John, age 41.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Linda K. Rice of Carlisle, one niece, Lea Souther (and husband, Scott) and their children Lauren and Lexi of Paintsville, KY and one nephew, William Ryan Slone (and wife, Nicole) of GA. He was also survived by his aunt and uncle, Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Meade, Lexington, KY and cousins, Pat and Roland Case, Lexington, KY and Theresa Long, Ashland, KY. He was preceded in death by his twin sister, Judith M. Slone in 2010.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, December 2, 2011 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle with The Rev. Richard Reese officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, Paintsville, KY. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
