Samuel J. Good, Jr., age 90, of Carlisle, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017 at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born January 7, 1927 in Robesonia, PA to the late Samuel J. and Helen I. (Fischer) Good, Sr., and was the widow of Dorothy L. (Schwartz) Good.
Samuel retired from Daily Express Trucking after 30 years of service as a contract manager, and served on the board of directors of Daily Underwriters of America. He formerly had been employed 15 years at the Reading Battery Company. He graduated with honors from the Robesonia High School and received an Associate’s Degree from the Reading Business Institute. He attended various courses at Penn State Reading, and seminars with the National Trucking Associate and PA Motor Truck Association. He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle. A US Army Veteran of WWII, serving in the European Theatre of Operations in the 3rd Armor Field Artillery Battalion. A life member of the VFW Post #6558 Womelsdorf PA, a member of the Carlisle Order of the Eagles Aerie #1299, a member of the Fraternal Order of Moose #761 of Carlisle, a member of the Pioneer Hose Company #1, of Robesonia, and a member of AARP.
Sam enjoyed woodworking, gardening and time spent at the beach with his loving family. Traveling was important to Sam and his late wife, Dorothy.
He is survived by a son, Michael D. (and wife Barbara) Good of Carlisle; a daughter, Debbie A. (and husband Israel) Nieves of Carlisle; eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Samuel was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy L. (Schwartz) Good, and his daughter, Linda J. Porter.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Louther Street, Carlisle, PA with the Rev. Rob Moore officiating. Burial will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11:00 am at the North Heidelberg Cemetery, Robesonia, PA. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 pm and on Thursday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church 201 W. Louther Street, Carlisle, PA 17013.
