Samuel Howard Brown, 80, of Carlisle died Monday, May 13, 2013 at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
Born November 24, 1932 in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late C. L. and Lillian Howard Brown.
He owned and operated C. L. Brown and Son Rose Farm which grew and sold and also provided roses to the Hershey Rose Garden. He was also a carpet salesman with M & Z Carpet in Mechanicsburg; his was the first farm in Cumberland County to grow tobacco. Samuel was a member of the Brethren in Christ Church, Carlisle where he taught Sunday School. He was a Yankees Fan and Dallas Cowboys fan. Sam was a proud member of the Republican Party; a member of the American Rose Society and the NRA. Sam farmed for many years and loved animals, gardening, and being outdoors. He was a US Army veteran. He will be missed by his dog Brody.
Surviving are his wife of sixty years, Peggy Y. Brown of Carlisle; four children, Dianne Foreman (and husband, David) of Carlisle, Sue Burkholder (and husband, Ron) of Carlisle, Lenny Brown of Harrisburg, and Jeff Brown (and wife, Pam) of Carlisle; five grandchildren, Eric Foreman, Jeremy Foreman, Megan Brown, Catlin Brown, and Sarah Burkholder; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
