Ruth L. Hoffman, 91, of Carlisle passed away Friday, February 7, 2014 at her home.
Born August 13, 1922 in Lawn, PA, Lebanon County, a daughter of the late Carl H. and Eleanor L. (Young) Shoemaker and the widow of George (Pete) Hoffman, Sr., who died in 1956.
Ruth attended Hershey High School and graduated from Carlisle High in 1940. She was a former employee of Hershey Chocolate Factory, Carlisle Crystal Plant, Naval Supply Depot, and later transferred to Carlisle Barracks where she worked in the Finance and Accounting Office, retiring after thirty-seven years. She was a member of Waggoners United Methodist Church, Daughters of American Revolution, AARP, NARFE, Cumberland County Historical Society, and Carlisle Area Healthcare Auxiliary where she volunteered more than thirty years.
Surviving are her brother, Thomas M. Shoemaker (and wife, Pauline) of Carlisle and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her sister, S. Helen Balmer (and husband, David) and three brothers and their wives, Robert (and wife, Anna), Charles (and wife, Barbara, and Carl (and wife, Judy).
Ruth was an avid hunter and has traveled extensively both in the US and abroad.
A service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle with Rev. Timothy A. Funk officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
