Roy Thomas Lebo died on October 8, 2015 at the Harrisburg Hospital at the age of 97.
He was born in Carlisle on September 14, 1918 to the late Thomas Roy Lebo and Irene B. Boyer Lebo. Roy graduated from Carlisle High School in 1938. After graduating, he worked at the Carlisle Frog and Switch before joining the U.S. Army during the war. He was a veteran of World War II serving in campaigns throughout Europe and the D-Day assault. He served 21 years in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant before he retired. After his service he was employed as a State Liquor Store manager for several locations including Shippensburg and Mechanicsburg.
Roy was a successful gardener at his home in Carlisle. He and his wife sold the best sweet corn fresh from the garden for many years to people who would get it on their way home from work.
He was the husband of the late Mabel M. Zimmerman Lebo. They met in Seattle and were married in Minnesota. The two were happily married for many years. Their 65th wedding anniversary was on September 22, 2014.
Roy is survived by four daughters, Patricia M. Gildner (husband Lawrence) of Duncannon, Nancy Lebo Martz of California, Shirley A. Lebo of Carlisle, and Susan M. Lancia (husband John) of Dubai, UAE. Also surviving are six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Ray Lebo and two sisters Pauline and Romaine Lebo.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 16, 2015 at the Hoffman Funeral Home, 2020 West Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. The Reverends Suzanne and Roger Uittenbogaard will officiate the service. Burial will be in Westminster Cemetery with full military honors supplied by Cumberland County Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be sent to the National Museum of the United States Army via the Army Historical Foundation at www.ArmyHistory.org.
