Roy H. Djuvik, 81, of Carlisle, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at his home.
Roy was born in Casper, Wyoming on August 30, 1931 to Eva (Bergh Johnsen) and Carl Djuvik. He graduated in 1952 from Carnegie Mellon Institute of Technology with a degree in Chemical Engineering.
Roy started his career at Bristol Laboratories in Syracuse, NY and left when drafted into the United States Army. He resumed his career at Rohm & Haas in Houston, TX as a chemical engineer. After multiple transfers over 30 years, he retired as the Director of North American Operations. In his retirement, he fulfilled his lifelong dreams of travel, skiing, exploring North America’s National Parks, and sailing in the Caribbean. He enjoyed visiting friends across the country, fishing, and spending summers in Star Lake, New York with his family.
He is survived by Mary Anne (Benz), his wife of over 57 years, in addition to his five children; Karen (Larry Detwiler ) Boiling Springs, PA, Eric (Alaine) Houston, TX, Lori (Jim Bartow) Furlong, PA, Kristy (Rich Corino) Blue Bell, PA, and Margo (Ken Proctor) The Woodlands, TX; and 11 grandchildren, Nicole, Jason, Michele, Jimmy, Kimberly, Andrew, Brad, Julianna, Kelsey, Amy, and Elizabeth, and a sister, Joyce (Brian Olson) Grand Junction, CO.
Roy touched the lives of all those he met from his various moves and travels across the country. He valued the specialness of family, friends and memories, and his Star Lake getaway in the Adirondacks. Roy will always be remembered for his ready wit, keen insight, love of music, and quiet generosity.
A celebration of Roy’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle with Rev. Ken Fornicolla officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
