Ronald Eugene “Gene” Nolley passed away peacefully on April 26, 2022 at Chapel Pointe at Carlisle. He was the second of ten children born in Finley Kentucky in 1929. Gene attended Western Kentucky Universityand joined the Army in June 1952. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the Army Reserves in June of 1980.
It was during his tour at Indiantown Gap where he met Mary Morris of Pottsville and they were married in 1953.Their blessed union of 56 years produced two children. Gene was a caring father and devoted husband. In addition to his career at Alcoa Aluminum, he worked numerous part-time jobs to provide for his family. In retirement, he was active in the Penn State Master Gardeners and was the Zoning Officer of Norwegian Township.
His spiritual journey brought him to the First Baptist Church in Pottsville PA where he served as a deacon for many years. He was an avid reader of history and the Bible, enjoyed gardening and landscaping, listened to country music, and loved visiting his children and grandchildren.
Gene is survived by his son Ron (wife Jane) Nolley, Jr. from Edmond Oklahoma, daughter Judy (huband Steve) Huntzinger from Mechanicsburg, grandchildren: Steve Huntzinger, Ann Pittman and Linda Santiago and 4 great grandchildren. His is also survived by his sisters Vivian Miller and Nancy Bowers, and brother Nelson Nolley.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at the Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle, PA 17013. Burial will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
