Rodger Lamarr Smith, 87, died Monday, August 1, 2011, at Green Ridge Village, Newville. Born June 18, 1924, in Glen Rock, he was a son of the late Lloyd Peter and Ruth Pauline Snyder Smith. He was vice president of I. Reindollar and Sons Construction of York. Rodger was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran who served during WWII as a Gunner and Bombadier in B24 aircraft. Rodger was a member of the York Chapter of White Rose Chorus, a member of Saint Peters Church of Seven Valleys and a lifetime member of the Glen Rock Carolers Association. He was a great Boy Scout leader of the Boy Scouts of America. He served as president of the Dallstown School Board. Rodger was also an avid fisherman and golfer. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Rosalie Betty Smith of Newville; his daughter, Elizabeth McKnight (and husband, Marcus) of Carlisle, his son, Steven S. Smith (and wife, Jodie) of Houston, Texas; and four grandchildren, Todd Smith, Ryan Smith, Matthew McKnight and Emily McKnight. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd P. Smith, Jr. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday in the Trinity Reformed Church Cemetery, Glen Rock, with the Rev. Thomas Beck officiating. Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice
