Rodney “Darby” Elwin Throne, 87, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at his home.
He was born August 11, 1932 in Carlisle to the late Harold and Romaine (Warner) Throne.
Rodney loved hunting and fishing and was quite a baseball player in his time. He was a lifelong member of the St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plainfield. He was also a charter member of the Plainfield Rod and Gun Club in Clearfield County, PA. Rodney was formerly employed by Masland Co. in Carlisle and Navy Supply Depot in Mechanicsburg. He served in the Army in Trieste, Italy.
He is survived by three children, Sheree (husband Tom) McCleary of White River Junction, VT, Debra (husband Wayne) Wiser of Newville, and Terry (wife Audrey) Throne of Dillsburg; brother, Duane (Dorothy) Throne and sister, Donna (Ken) Miller, both of Carlisle; grandchildren, Sean, Jennifer, Sarah, Lauren and Nicole; great-grandchildren, Chase, Casey and Bailey; his very dear friend, Jean Noonan of Carlisle; two step-children, Deb Rasp of Carlisle and Dan Keeseman of Christiana; as well as numerous step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Julia Dewalt and his second wife, Romaine Keeseman.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2070 Newville Road, Plainfield with Vicar Andrew Wagner officiating. Viewings will be held on Thursday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service at the church. Burial will follow at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens.
