Robert N. Wallace, Sr., 85, of Carlisle died Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at the Harrisburg Hospital.
Born October 23, 1928 in Mechanicsburg, he was a son of the late Ralph Newton and Mable Thumma Wallace.
He was a graduate of John Harris High School. He retired from Frog, Switch, & Manufacturing, Carlisle. He also worked for Bethlehem Steel, Harrisburg and John Stapf as a truck driver. He managed Robert Bernhisel Salvage Yard, Fremont, NE. He was a member of the Methodist faith. Also a member of the Williams Grove Steam Engine Association. He loved to work on cars and mowers and just fix things. Robert was a US Navy veteran who served during WWII. He loved to read, do puzzles, and go bowling.
Surviving are his wife of sixty-three years, Violet Wallace of Carlisle; one son, Robert N. Wallace, Jr. (and wife Cheryl) of Ames, NE; two daughters, Darlene K. Niles of Carlisle and Kathy Hedrick (and husband, Roger) of Carlisle; three grandsons, Shawn Hedrick (and financ´ee, Courtney), Tad Wallace (and wife, Melinda), and Chad Wallace; five great-grandchildren, McKayla, Hunter, Azelah, Kaleb, and Zayne; and one sister, Ethel Cassel of Mechanicsburg. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Robert D. Niles, Jr. and seven brothers and sisters, Mary Duvall, Elmae Spear, Dorothy Melhorn, Helen Mojica, Harry Wallace, Ronald Wallace, and Barry Wallace.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle with Rev. Timothy A. Funk officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle with full military honors conducted by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. A viewing will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2014 and also from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
