Robert L. Stettenbauer, 74, born January 27, 1940 in Reading, PA, died March 4, 2014 at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, PA. Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Grace Carolyn Stettenbauer, resident in Carlisle; his mother Margaret Moyer Stettenbauer of Auburndale, FL; his four daughters: Kelly Wagner of Auburndale, FL, Billie McKenzie of Martins Ferry, OH, Danni Mitchell of Wilmington, DE and Elizabeth Stettenbauer, resident in Carlisle; his brother Ralph Stettenbauer and sister Jane and Thomas Wells, all three of Auburndale, FL; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his father, Warren L. Stettenbauer of Reading, PA. He was a very beloved member of his wife's large family, the Gilingers.
Bob was a 1957 graduate of Reading High School. He earned a B.S. cum laude in computer information technology in 1997. He was in the U.S. Air Force Security Service 1957-1961; he was a professional air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration 1971-1981. From 1983 to 1995 he worked for the U.S. Department of State as a communications officer. He served in Edinburgh, Scotland in the Air Force; in New Mexico, New York and at Harrisburg International Airport as an air traffic controller; and in Istanbul, Turkey; Shanghai, China; Mexico City; and the Republic of Djibouti in his work for the Department of State. The Stettenbauers (Bob, Grace and their daughter Elizabeth) went on to Grace's subsequent assignments for the Department of State in Rome, Italy; Canberra, Australia; and Jerusalem.
Bob held a private pilot's license and flying, whether as pilot or passenger, was his absolute favorite thing to do. He loved animals, above all dogs, and he loved to travel.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the U.S. Army War College Memorial Chapel, Carlisle Barracks, with CH (COL) Gregory T. D'Emma officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the Memorial Chapel.
