Robert L. Paxton, 79, of Carlisle, died Friday, July 13, 2012 at the Church of God Home.
Born December 7, 1932 in Carlisle, he was a son of the late Carl E. and Viola Mae Zinn Paxton.
He was employed as a machinist for the Naval Depot, Mechanicsburg with 35 years of service. He was a US Navy veteran who served during the Korean War on the USS John Hood. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Carlisle and attended First Church of God, Carlisle. He was a member of the American Legion Post 101, Carlisle. He enjoyed hunting, camping, and motorcycle riding and was past president of the Turnpike Ramblers. Robert spent his winters in Florida for 12 years. He was a Scout Master for Troop 160 of the First United Methodist Church and was also their Explorer Advisor.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Doris J. Paxton of Carlisle and one son, Jeffrey Paxton of Carlisle. He was preceded in death by one son, Gregory Paxton; two brothers, Wayne and Merle Paxton; and one sister, Jeanne Stringfellow. Also, nieces, nephews, and sister-in-law, Lois Ranck.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 20, 2012 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens at the convenience of the family.
