Robert E. Smyser

Robert E. Smyser, age 86, of Carlisle, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017 at his residence.
He was born July 4, 1931 in Carlisle to the late Raymond A. and Gladys (Miller) Smyser.
Robert was formerly employed by the Laborer’s Union #1160 until he retired and worked for Middlesex Township for 19 years. He was a former member of Cumberland Star Lodge #197, Harrisburg Consistory Scottish Rite and Grace United Methodist Church where he was part of the Usher Association and the church choir. He was currently a member of Elks Lodge, BPO #578, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1299 and Middlesex United Methodist Church.
He is survived by: his wife of 69 years, Marian J. (Schaeffer) Smyser of Carlisle; a son, Daniel R. Smyser of Carlisle; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth (husband Thomas) Myers and Rebecca (husband Randy) Smith of Mechanicsburg; a sister, Gwynn Sorrentino of Carlisle; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by two brothers, Nile and Barry Smyser.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Middlesex United Methodist Church, 118 N. Middlesex Road, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Jan F. Hughes officiating. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There will be a visitation at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Middlesex United Methodist Church, 118 N. Middlesex Road, Carlisle, PA 17013.
