Robert Charles Swartz, Sr., 84, of Carlisle, died Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at M. S. Hershey Medical Center.
Born April 20, 1929 in Carlisle, he was a son of the late Charles M. and Beryl I. Adams Swartz.
He was a 1947 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School and a 1954 graduate of Washington Missionary College. He retired from STIHL Inc. as a salesman for 18 years, He was also a self employed logger for many years. Former deliveryman for the Harrisburg Dairy. He participated in the Whitecoat Foundation which worked in the Experiment for "Q" Fever. He was a member of the Carlisle Seventh Day Adventist where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He was a US Army veteran who served as a medic during the Korean War. He enjoyed cave exploring, camping, flying, fishing, and hunting.
Surviving are his wife of eight years, Sylvia Y. Swartz of Carlisle; one daughter, Jo Anne Swartz Vogelsong (husband, Brian) of Carlisle; one son, Robert C. Swartz, Jr (wife, Michelle) of Carlisle; one brother, Marlin Swartz (wife, Marilyn) of Camp Hill; one sister, Mildred Beryl Jones of Carlisle; four grandchildren, Kellie and Breanna Vogelsong and Danielle Ebaugh (husband, David) and Troy Swartz (wife, Toniele); and five great-grandchildren, Morgan, Dominick, Hannah, Ariel, and Isabella. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his second wife, Betty J. Shaeffer Swartz.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 12, 2013 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 10 Belvedere Street, Carlisle with Pastor Keith Ingram officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens with full military honors conducted by Cumberland County Honor Guard. A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle.
