Robert B. "Bob" Stambaugh, 91, of Carlisle, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at his home.
Born May 14, 1922 in Middlesex Township, he was a son of the late William Wesley and Ada Kathryn Young Stambaugh.
Robert attended the Carlisle School District. He was a retired farmer in Penn Township in 1972. He retired as foreman for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in 1984 after twenty-three years. He also retired as a Deputy Sheriff of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department in 1994. He was a life member of West Pennsboro Township Fire Company, Plainfield, the Carlisle Fire Department, Carlisle Special Fire Police, Cumberland County Fire Police, the Pennsylvania Fire Police Association, the Failor-Wagner Post 421 American Legion, Newville, the Walnut Bottom Rod and Gun Club, a life member and charter member of Penn Township Fire Company, and a life member and senior member of Twin Springs Hunting Lodge, Fowler's Hollow, Perry County. He was also a member of the Deputy Sheriff's Association of Pennsylvania and a committee member of Boy Scout Troop 185, Huntsdale. He was also a member of the Mount Rock United Methodist Church. He was a US Army veteran who served in WWII from September 2, 1942 until December 10, 1945 and was stationed in Panama Canal with the 706 Signal Air Warning Company.
Surviving are his wife of sixty-six years, Ruth Joan Crull Stambaugh; two sons, Robert B. Stambaugh, Jr. (and wife, Beth) of Newville and Alan John Stambaugh (and wife, LuAnn) of Newville; three daughters, Bonnie Jean Snyder (and husband, Ray), Cheryl Ann Ficalora (and husband, Nils), and Kimberly Sue Sanderson(and husband, Kevin) all of Carlisle; one sister, Savilla Pavlesek of Carlisle; nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter Betty Lou Rakers, a grandson, Randy Lee Rakers; two sisters, Martha Weary and Emma Beard; and two brothers, George and Marshall Stambaugh.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle with Rev. Linda Maifair officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle with full military honors conducted by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. A viewing will be held 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2014 and also from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
