Robert A. Brown, 83, of Boiling Springs, died on Oct. 22, 2013 at Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 20, 1930 in Mt. Vernon, IL. He was the son of the late Herbert and Opal Claybourn Brown.
He was a 1948 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School. Robert served in the US Navy from 1948-1949 and was also in the Air Force ROTC. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BBA and married his wife, Norma Falz, in 1953. He completed Harvard University's PMD program in 1971.
He worked for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company for 25 years in various management positions worldwide, including Executive Vice President of Firestone Canada. Robert moved to Carlisle as President of Carlisle Tire and Rubber in 1978 and worked there until 1982 when he opened Carlisle Syntec and served as its President until his retirement in 1994.
Robert was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church, where he was Chair of Trustees. He was an active member of the communities in which he lived, including serving on the Board of Directors at the Carlisle Hospital and the Carlisle Country Club. After retiring, Robert and Norma moved to Beaufort, SC where he was active in his church choir.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma Falz Brown; daughter, Carla (husband Tim) Stutenroth of Dillsburg; and sons, Todd (wife Susan) Brown of Cape May, NJ, Scott (wife Sherry) Brown of Chandler, AZ, and David Brown of Carlisle. He is also survived by one sister, Betty (husband Gene) Bolerjack of Mt. Vernon, IL. Robert had ten grandchildren, Catherine and Shannon Stutenroth; Kevin and Benjamin Brown; Erich, Alexander and Ian Brown; and Eddie, Julianna and Christina Brown; and two great-grandchildren, Emmalyn and Graysen Brown. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by one sister, Rose Marian Williams; and one brother, James Brown.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Second Presbyterian Church, 528 Garland Drive, Carlisle, PA 17013. The Reverends Jeffrey W. Gibelius and Jennifer J. McKenna will be officiating. Interment will be in Second Presbyterian Church's Memorial Garden.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions be made to Second Presbyterian Church, 528 Garland Drive, Carlisle, PA 17013; Project S.H.A.R.E., 5 North Orange Street, Carlisle, PA 17013; and Samaritan Fellowship, 99 Mooreland Avenue, PO Box 495, Carlisle, PA 17013.
