Richard L. Landis

Richard L. Landis, age 93, of Carlisle, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Chapel Pointe-Carlisle.
He was born September 19, 1923 in Carlisle to the late Millard E. and Marie (Lackey) Landis and was the widower of Lois (Ditlow) Landis.
Richard retired as a letter carrier from the Carlisle Post Office after 35 years of service. He was a 1942 graduate of Carlisle High School. He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church. Richard proudly served his country during WWII in the Merchant Marines and the Naval Air Force as a waist gunner on a Patrol Bomber. He was a member of the Old Town Run Mountain Lodge, the Carlisle Elks Lodge, BPOE # 578, the Carlisle Gun Club, where he shot actively on the pistol team and achieved the NRA rank of lifetime master. After retiring from the Post Office, he became one of the first volunteers at Project Share. He was seen often walking his dog in Chapel Hill and weekday mornings at McDonalds, discussing current events with his friends
He is survived by two sons, Richard E. (wife Ginny) Landis of Alexandria, PA and Michael H. (wife Cindy) Landis of Carlisle; brother, Dr. Thomas J. (wife Donna) Landis of Carlisle; two grandchildren, Sean M. Landis and Riley E. A. Landis; and a great-grandson, Jackson R. Landis. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Millard (Bill) W. Landis.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Carlisle United Methodist Church, 45 S. West Street, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Mira A. Hewlett officiating. Private interment will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Churchtown. There will be a visitation at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carlisle United Methodist Church, 45 S. West Street, Carlisle, PA 17013 or to the Chapel Pointe Benevolent Fund, 770 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, PA 17013.
