Richard L. "Doc" Kimmel

Richard L. “Doc” Kimmel, age 83, of Carlisle, passed away suddenly Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
He was born August 17, 1934 in Carlisle to the late John D. and Bertha (Woods) Kimmel.
Doc retired from the Silver Spring Elementary School in the Cumberland Valley School District after 22 years. He was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard as a Sergeant in the 104th Armored Calvary, Carlisle. He was a charter member of 59 years at St. Matthews United Church of Christ, Carlisle. Doc enjoyed working in his gardens, but most of all, he enjoyed the time spent with his loving family.
He is survived by: his wife of 64 years, Joanne E. (Bohn) Kimmel of Carlisle; a son, Richard L. Jr. (wife Wendy) Kimmel of New Bloomfield; two daughters, Cheryl L. (husband Thomas) Swartz and Tammy J. (husband William) Snyder, both of Carlisle; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and eleven step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Kimmel.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at St. Matthews United Church of Christ, 3240 Spring Road, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Timothy Dugan officiating. Burial will follow at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. There will be viewing from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 25, 2017 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services.
