Richard "Dick" Lee Fortney, Sr.

Richard “Dick” Lee Fortney, Sr., 78, of Shermans Dale passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Manor Care Health Services, Carlisle.

Born on February 22, 1941, he was the son of the late Ira “Mike” and Anne F. (Kepner) Fortney.

Dick was a talented mechanic. He was a former owner of R&J Garage in Shermans Dale. He also worked for Campbell’s Auto and Tire in Landisburg and retired from Billy Clouse’s Garage in Shermans Dale.

Dick had a true passion for working on old Ford cars and an avid listener of WHYL AM 1000. He enjoyed NASCAR and cheering on his favorite driver, Mark Martin and spending time in the woods hunting. He also had a soft side and was always willing to offer his advice, however never overstepping his bounds by butting in. He will be truly missed.

Dick is survived by his sons, Richard Fortney, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Carlisle, and Jason Fortney and his fiancé Pamela of Shermans Dale; daughters, Laura Fortney of NY and Barbara Pickering and her husband Mike of Carlisle; sisters, Mary Ann Kidwell and husband Wade and Flora Mae Phillips all of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved grand dog, Buddy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Jeanette (Branter) Fortney and brother-in-law Joseph Phillips.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, March 23 at 11:00am at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA 17013. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00am until the start of the service.
