Richard D. Shields, 67, of Gardners, died Sunday, November 17, 2013 at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
Born January 13, 1946 in Franklin, he was a son of the late Clinton and Thelma Shields.
He was a former auto detailer for McGuires Ford, Duncannon and was currently employed by Wal-Mart, Carlisle. Richard was a member of the VFW Post #7343, Mt. Holly Springs. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed watching racing of all types.
Surviving are his wife of twenty-four years, Nancy Shields of Gardners; previous wife of twenty years, Wanetta Jean Burk; five children: Dean Sherman, Candy Lynn, David Richard, Waylon Elton Rowe, and April Lynn Hobble; twelve grandchildren: Jessica, Amanda, Jonathan, Tiffany, CJ, Zachary, Corey, Kiersten, Destiny, Tylor, Jekobi, and Logan; two sisters, Janet Elaine McKinley and Earla Francine Spice; two great-grandchildren; Tristian and Karter and one on the way. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Clayton; five brothers: Donald Leroy, Robert Ernest, Gerald Albert, Clarence Ralph and Virgil Allen; three sisters: Eleanor Gene Lowery, Pearl Virginia Klinger, and Mildred R. Winters.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Friday, November 22, 2013 at Victory Tabernacle Church, 472 East North Street, Carlisle with Rev. Glenn H. Yohn officiating. Burial will be in Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville with full military honors. A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 21, 2013 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made payable to Nancy C. Shields, in c/o Orrstown Bank at 1 Giant Lane, Carlisle, PA 17013.
