Richard B. Hamlet, age 73, of Carlisle, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home, Carlisle.
He was born on June 28, 1942 in Detroit, MI to the late Horace and Edna Barnes Hamlet.
He was an account executive for Halo Branded Solutions. He formerly worked at Carlisle Syntec, Sperry Univac, National Bank of Detroit and American Motors Corp. He was a Navy veteran and graduate of Detroit College of Business and Penn State University. He lived in Dillsburg from 1973 until 1991 where he was involved with youth baseball, soccer, NHS Band. He was Cub master of Pack #39, Committee Chairman Troop #38 and Past President of the Dillsburg and Newville Lions. He has served multiple terms as a trustee at Second Presbyterian Church, Carlisle and was a member of the Carlisle Chamber of Commerce, Carlisle Kiwanis, Plainfield Lions, American Legion Post 421, Newville and was a Life Member of the Penn State Alumni Association. After 30 years off, he started to play hockey again at 55. He took pride in being able to still be a competitive hockey player at 72. He organized valet parking at his church and kept this service going for over ten years. Dick will be remembered for his humor, organizations skills and infectious smile. He and his wife Carol visited every state in the USA except Hawaii and 7 provinces of Canada. He loved to read and was proud of his Great Lakes upbringing.
He is survived by his wife Carol Hamlet of Carlisle; daughter, Carol (and husband Rob) Shaubach; son, David (and wife Jen) Hamlet; son, Bryan Hamlet; stepsons, George (and wife Lisa) DeMers, Chris DeMers and companion Heidi Krall, Jim (and wife Jen) DeMers; grandsons, Morgan DeMers, Mason DeMers, Kyle Hamlet; granddaughter Missy Shaubach; and a sister Beryl Tarrant of AuGres, Michigan.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Second Presbyterian Church, 528 Garland Drive, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Dr. Jeffrey W. Gilbelius and Rev. Jennifer J. McKenna officiating. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. A visitation will follow the services in the church rotunda.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Leader Dogs for the Blind or PA Lions Beacon Lodge (a summer camp for blind or disabled children and adults). These donations may be made through the Plainfield Lions Club, 1 Garland Court, Carlisle, PA 17013 or Second Presbyterian Church, 528 Garland Drive, Carlisle, PA 17013.
