Reverend Ronald F. Madeira

Reverend Ronald F. Madeira, age 79, of Carlisle, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2017 at his residence.
He was born September 19, 1938 in Harrisburg, PA to the late Heister and Edna (Martin) Madeira.
He graduated from John Harris High School in 1956 where he was active in school plays, band and choir. He attended Elizabethtown College, but graduated from Shippensburg University in 1960. He graduated from Bethany Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL in 1963. Ron had been an Ordained Minister in the Church of the Brethren for over 50 years.
Ron worked as: Assistant Chaplin at Harrisburg State Hospital; Pastor of Front Royal, VA Church of the Brethren; Pastor of Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren; and Interim Pastor of Bunkertown, Free Spring, Martinsburg and Roaring Spring Churches of the Brethren. Ron was a member of the District Board and the Ministry Commission of the Middle District Church of the Brethren. He was Assistant Administrator at the Peter Becker Community, Harleysville and Nursing Home Administrator of the Church of God Home, Carlisle, for 18 years, before retiring in 2004.
He was a member of the Carlisle Church of the Brethren for over 30 years where he served 4 terms as Church Board Chair and was also a member of the Purpose Process Team. He was Moderator for several Churches of the Brethren.
Ron was a member of the Altoona Choral Society, served on Salvation Army Boards in Front Royal, VA and Carlisle and was active in all churches he attended serving on church boards, pastoral search committees and singing in the choirs. He served on the Foundation Board of the Cross Keys Brethren Home for 6 years. Ron also served as a clerk of the Voting Polls in Middlesex Township for several years and volunteered at Project SHARE.
Church and family were most important to Ron. He enjoyed extensive traveling, preaching, singing in choirs, reading, dogs, cooking, biking and working outdoors. He was an avid fan of Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers football. Family gatherings and game playing were some of the other joys of Ron’s life.
He is survived by: his wife of 58 years, Carolyn (Seibert) Madeira of Carlisle; two daughters, Beth Ann (husband Jim) Corriveau of Lake George, NY and Lynne Carol (husband Dr. David) Whitefield of Andover, MA; two sons, Mark Franklin Madeira of Philadelphia and Matthew Scott (wife Dr. Jody) Madeira of Bloomington, IN; twenty grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, John (wife Joyce) Madeira of Hershey; a sister, Laura Reinhold of Hummelstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at First Church of the Brethren, 1340 Forge Road, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Marla Abe and Rev. Deryl Reinhold co-officiating. Burial will be held at Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill. There will be a viewing from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2017 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Rd., Carlisle, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carlisle First Church of the Brethren.
