The Rev. Ray M. McGarvey, 88, of Carlisle, died Sunday, March 18, 2012, at Chapel Pointe of Carlisle.
Born Jan. 19, 1924, in Irvona, he was a son of the late Aaron and Olive Spade McGarvey.
He attended Nyack College and entered the ministry. In 1952 he began a pioneer work in Rocky Mount, N.C. Mr. McGarvey was ordained at the High Point Tabernacle, High Point, N.C., in 1968. He pastored churches in Mississippi, western Pennsylvania and North Carolina. He was a U.S. Navy veteran during World War II.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, T. Elaine McGarvey of Carlisle; two sons, Daniel R. McGarvey of Downington and Ronald G. McGarvey of Irvona; a daughter, Beth McGarvey Koziara of Clayton, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Larry D. McGarvey and two brothers, Cloyd and Norman McGarvey.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 21 at Chapel Pointe of Carlisle, 770 S. Hanover St. with the Rev. Walter L. Frankenberry officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 22, in Fairview Cemetery, Clearfield County. A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at Chapel Pointe of Carlisle.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
