Rev. Neal D. Bachman

Rev. Neal D. Bachman, 93 of Carlisle, died October 25, 2013 in Forest Park Health Park Center, Carlisle.

Born December 17, 1919 in Bainbridge, PA a son of the late George and Margaret Dimeler Bachman.

Rev. Bachman received his Bachelors Degree in 1948 from Dickinson College, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta and Omicron Delta Kappa. Neal served for three years in the 13th Armored Division of the US Army during WWII. He received his Master's Degree in Sacred Theology from Boston University in 1951. Neal was a United Methodist Church minister for 33 years, serving in churches throughout the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference. His first assignment was a three point charge in Tremont, Donaldson and Joliet, next he served St. Marks UMC in Harrisburg, Trinity UMC in Havertown, then Emilie UMC in Levittown and last served at Lansdale UMC. After retirement, he assisted visiting shut-ins from the former Grace UMC. Neal was able to visit the Holy Land twice.

Neal enjoyed painting, playing golf, spending time at the family cottage in Perry County and was passionate about gardening. He remained active in the affairs of the Eastern PA Conference of the UMC. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Carlisle and a Mason in Tremont, PA.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Helen Bachman of Carlisle; one daughter, Katharine Bachman of Boston, MA; one son, Read Bachman and his wife Jeanne of Millerstown; three grandchildren, Clare Bachman, Alexander and Robert Thurmond; and one great-grandson, Ricky Thurmond. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Ross Bachman.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at New Bloomfield Cemetery, S Apple St. New Bloomfield, PA 17068, with Rev. James E. VanZandt officiating. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Carlisle United Methodist Church.

Funeral services are being arranged by Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 219 N. Hanover St. Carlisle, PA.
