Rev. Kevin Lee Kayda II, 27, of New Freedom, PA died Thursday, October 3, 2013 in Carlisle.
Kevin Lee was born November 13, 1985 in Lancaster, the son of Kevin and Laura McMillan Kayda.
Kevin was a graduate of Carlisle High School, Class of 2004. He received his Bachelor's Degree from St. Vincent College, Latrobe, PA and two Master's Degrees in Theology and Church History from Mt. St. Mary's College, Emmitsburg, MD. He was ordained in June of 2013 as a priest in the Catholic Church. During his journey to the priesthood he served in many churches including Hershey, Mt. Carmel, and several locations in West Virginia. He served as a Deacon at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Waynesboro. He recently received his first assignment as a parochial vicar at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Freedom. Kevin loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. He was a history buff, particularly interested in the Civil War and liked to watch the History Channel. He loved his computer and his dog, Tuggboat.
In addition to his parents, Kevin Lee is survived by his two sisters, Stephanie Kayda of Pittsburgh and Michelle Kayda of Baltimore, MD. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Jean McMillan of Falling Waters, WV. Also numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Mass of Remembrance will be held Monday, October 7, 2013 at 7:00 p.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Drive, Carlisle with the Rev. Brian J. Wayne, as celebrant and Rev. Thomas Haan as homilist. A viewing will be held from 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. at the church on Monday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Drive, Carlisle with the Most Rev. William J. Waltersheid as celebrant and Rev. Lawrence J. McNeil as homilist. Burial will be in the St. Patrick Catholic Church Cemetery, McClures Gap Road, Carlisle.
