Rev. Donald G. Jones, age 78, of Newville, passed away suddenly on Monday, June 20, 2016 at his residence.
He was born October 6, 1937 in Plainfield, PA to the late Norman F. and Ruth (Fickes) Jones and was the widower of the late Kay A. (Reeder) Jones who passed August 22, 2007.
Rev. Jones was the Senior Pastor of the Lighthouse Church in Newville. Reading and preaching from the Bible were important elements of his faith. He enjoyed preaching on the radio program-Songs of Praise. Don enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, farming and dairy farming, going to auctions and riding his John Deere's. He especially loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by two sons, Gerald W. Jones of Carlisle and Michael A. (and wife Lindsey) Jones of New Bloomfield; two daughters, Susan K. (and husband Donald) Nailor of Carlisle and Kathy L. Jones and husband Kenneth E. Yoder of Carlisle; a brother, Harold G. (and wife Roseanne) Jones of Carlisle; three sisters, Betty Armolt of Carlisle, Ruth Coldsmith of Newville and Louise Hosfelt of Carlisle; ten grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Ronald, Richard, Wayne and Charles Jones and a sister, Norma Jean Rhoads.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the Lighthouse Church, 535 Mount Rock Road, Newville, PA with Rev. Harold Jones and Craig Shambaugh officiating. Interment will be at Westminster Cemetery. There will be a viewing from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 24, 2016 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA and on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services.
